MBGC Wresting Program

The MBGC Wrestling program is a competitive team for boys and girls. We provide a safe, positive and competitive learning environment for our youth. If you are looking for a sport that builds confidence, discipline, and mental concentration then look no further. It doesn't matter if your child is big or little, the only thing that matters is their willingness to try.

Our vision is to teach the athletes the skills necessary to build a strong foundation

of the sport to make the transition into high school and college a success.

 General Information

  • Registration is open to boys and girls from the ages of 5-14 with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Registration begins in November and runs through December. We encourage the parents to register early.
  • Unlike other programs within MBGC, you do not have to live in the Upper Marlboro area to join our elite team.
  • Practice is mandatory. Practice starts in mid-November and is 2-3 days a week for 2 hours. Practice is held at Gwynn Parks High School.
  • Our season runs from the first week in January through last week in March.
  • Tournaments take place on Saturday mornings at various schools in the Southern Maryland area including Prince George's County,                                            Charles County, St. Mary's County, and Calvert County.
  • Marlboro Wrestlers compete against other wrestlers in the Southern Maryland Junior Wresting League.
  • Wrestlers are matched up according to their age and weight in one of 31 different weight classes.
  • Each family is required to participate in fundraising.
  • Parent participation is required to assist with hosting at least one mini tournament during the season.                                                                                    Parent participation is mandatory. Parent participation is the rule.
  • When you think of wrestling, do not think of that stuff you see on TV, the SPORT of wrestling is very                                                                                technical and requires strategy, strength, and finesse.
  • Wrestling offers good conditioning for off season football players and builds discipline, physical fitness, and self reliance for all participants.
  • No prior experience is necessary—every child participates—there are no tryouts!
  • Our coaching staff consist of parent volunteers, collegiate wrestlers and high school wrestling students who all get along with each other, are dedicated, experienced and modest.
